The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Commission wishes to inform the community that a request to make consequential amendments to multiple laws as a result of the implementation of the Kahnawà:ke Justice Act (Act) was submitted on January 8, 2024. Work on the amendments was delayed due to other priorities related to the implementation of the Act. That work has now been completed.
The amendments are required to ensure cohesion between Kahnawà:ke laws and to integrate the Kahnawà:ke justice system more fully into the body of these laws. Additionally, various clerical amendments were made for purposes of consistency. These amendments do not affect the substantive law.
The amendments are being posted for a 30-day review period before proceeding with the enactment. Please click here to see the “Table of Consequential Amendments Related to the Kahnawà:ke Justice Act”.
