The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Commission (KLC) wishes to advise the community that 2002 Kahnawà:ke Animal Control Law (K.R.L. c. A-2, 25 Enniskkó:wa/March, 2002) was repealed and replaced by the 2024 Kahnawà:ke Animal Control Law (KACL) enacted, via Mohawk Council Resolution (MCR #02/2024-2025) at a Legislative Session (duly convened Council meeting) held on 10, Ohiarí:ha/June 2024.
The 2024 KACL ensures that animals be controlled and regulated in a fair and responsible manner to preserve the health and safety of the public and the community. The KACL addresses, amongst other things all of the subject matter in the 1885 Kahnawa:ke Pigs at Large Law. Therefore, the Kahnawa:ke Pigs at Large Law was officially repealed, at a follow-up Legislative Sessions held 17, Ohiarí:ha/June 2024 via Mohawk Council Resolution (MCR #03/2024-2025) and is no longer in force.
The final version of the 2024 Kahnawà:ke Animal Control Law is now published and can be found at www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com.
