Legislative Agenda update

The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission would like to provide the community with an update regarding the 2018 – 2021 Legislative Agenda. This Agenda coincides with the term of the current Elected Council.
Currently, two laws have been enacted through the Community Decision Making Process (CDMP) during this term:

  1. Kahnawà:ke Cannabis Control Law
  2. Kahnawà:ke Residency Law

Additionally, the following proposed legislation are currently going through the CDMP:

  1. Proposed Kahnawà:ke Family Homes & Matrimonial Interests Law (a previous law with this same name was repealed January 24, 2018). This Type I law is entering initial stages of information sharing and community input. It is expected to enter the Hearing Phase in early 2020
  2. Proposed Kahnawà:ke Occupational Safety & Health Law. This law is currently in the process of being categorized
  3. Amendments to the Kahnawà:ke Animal Control Law. Type II law awaiting confirmation of Purpose & Scope; once completed the law will enter the next phase of CDMP

Finally, there has been no progress on the proposed Kahnawà:ke Tobacco Law.
