The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to advise the community that the next meeting on proposed amendments to the Kahnawà:ke Membership Law is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 13 Seskéha/ October 2015 at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
At the previous meeting on 15, Seskehkó:wa/September, consensus was reached on the three agenda items (Section 5 on the Registrar; Section 6 on the Kahnawà:ke Kanien’kehá:ka Registry; and the review and approval of any related Definitions in Section 4).
The agenda for this meeting will be Section 7 (the “Approved Kahnawà:ke Resident List”) and the former Section 8 (“Council of Elders”). Additionally, related definitions in Section 4 will be reviewed and approved.
Please note that, in relation to the former Section 8, there was consensus reached at the 5, Kentenhkó:wa/November 2013 meeting to formally remove references to the Council of Elders in light of the consensus to the disbanding/removal of the Council of Elders from the law.
This will be the fourth meeting of the current phase (technically entitled ‘First Hearing’), which began on April 14 of this year.
