Reminder – Election Law First Hearing Tuesday evening

The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) would like to remind the community that the First Hearing on proposed amendments to the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke Election Law
will take place tomorrow (Tuesday) from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the Golden Age Club.

The meeting had been scheduled for 23, Tsothohrhkó:wa/January 2018 but was postponed due to the freezing rain.

The subject matters to be discussed are as follows:

  • Development of Preamble and Purpose statements;
  • Setting a definite date for elections;
  • Appointment of the Electoral Officer by the Kahnawà:ke Justice Commission;
  • Clarification of and, if need be, removal of the eligibility requirement that a nominee must declare all his/her private business holdings;
  • Identification of provisions suitable for transfer into a regulation; and
  • Establishment of a body to review decisions of the Electoral officer in an expeditious manner
